Dr Willem Kearney [Owner/Principal]
Dr Willem matriculated from Nylstroom Hoërskool in 1986 where he then went on to do his 2 years national service after which he went to study dentistry at the University of Pretoria. Dr Willem was a member of the Student Council and President of the Council for 2 years.
He is the immidiate past President of the Pretoria branch of the South African Dental Association (SADA - Pretoria). Dr Willem also has advanced training and experience in dental implantology and orthodontics.He received the following awards from the University:
- Deans award for best student BChD I, II and III
- Served on the Dental Student Council from 1991 - 1992
- Chairman of the Dental Student Council in 1992
- Middleton-Shaw prize in 1993 for the best pre-graduate presentation at the South-African division of the IADR.
- Henry St. John Randell Medal for the final year student with excellent character, leadership, sportsmanship and satisfactory academic career.
- Dr Jan Stegmann prize for the best achievement in Clinical Basic Restorative Dentistry.
- Oral B prize for the best student in Dental Materials
- Prossa prize for the best student in Clinical Fixed Prosthetics
- A D Laboratories Dentsply prize for the student who has proved himself to be the best equipped to run a successful dental practice.
Awarded the BChD degree in Dentistry at the University of Pretoria in June 1994
After completion of his studies and becoming a qualified Dental Surgeon he went to Empangeni where he worked for Dr Opperman for 8 months to gain experience, after which he started his own practice in Groblersdal from 1994 - 2004. During this period he also studies further completing a 2-year diploma in orthodontics and completing it in 2003, cum laude.
He completed a certificate in Dental Implantology in 2012.
He has in past lecturered at the University of Pretoria in the orthodontic department.
Dr Willem then started Smile Care Dental Studio in the Centurion Mall in September 2004 and with his fantastic team has never looked back. He has a passion for renovation of deteriorated dentition to it's former beauty.
In February 2017 Willem re-branded the company to Dr Kearney Advanced Dentistry and also relocated to the purposefully built premises on the cnrs of John Vorster and Akkerboom Streets in Centurion.
Dr Chris Traut [Dentist]
Born and bred in the Western Cape, doctor Chris Traut proceeded to study Dentistry at the University of the Western Cape following the completion of his matric year. He graduated top of his class as in 2016 receiving numerous awards for his academic achievements, most notably the Dean’s award for most distinguished undergraduate career and the SADA gold medal for academic excellence.
He then proceeded to commence with his community service year at Simon’s Town Naval base where he was fortunate enough to provide his patients with a comprehensive and holistic approach to treatment. The vast amount of clinical experience he received as a clinician at one of the military’s most esteemed treatment facilities has shaped him into a formidable young.
Dr Traut has a motivation towards expanding and continually improving his range of clinical skills. He has specific interests in the fields of aesthetic dentistry, implant dentistry, orthodontics and botox and filler treatments. In his personal time he enjoys spending time with friends and family, fine dining experiences and music festivals.
Angelique Kearney [Oral Hygienist]
Angelique completed her Oral Hygiene Diploma at the University of Pretoria in 1993. She and Dr Willem Kearney were married in October 1994. They opened a dental practice in Groblersdal and practiced for 11 years. While living in Groblersdal she studied further and qualified as a beauty therapist, personal trainer and aerobics instructor.
Angelique opened up her own beauty salon and clothing boutique while still managing the practice. After hours she did her personal training and aerobics. They have two children, Robyn and Jason. Robyn is currently studying dentistry at the University of Pretoria.
After 11 years they moved to Centurion to open a fantastic, extraordinary private practice. Angelique studied image consulting and is now a lifestyle and image coach.
Angelique takes care of the oral hygiene, marketing in the practice and Image training for businesses. She worked with the Southern Sun group, training their staff how not only to look beautiful on the outside, but successful in life.

She is currently a lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) and the President of OHASA (Oral Hygiene Association of South Africa) - Gauteng.
Amanda Schutte [Oral Hygienist]
I obtained my Oral hygiene degree at the University of Pretoria in 2014.
An asset I consider most valuable is the ability to handle people with care and not settling for anything less than the best possible treatment. I take pride in any work I do and with my humorous personality light up any work space.
I believe that one can achieve anything if your work spirit is optimistic and supportive. I am an enthusiastic worker with a practical touch and I place a high premium on human dignity, values and morals.
For fun I enjoy hiking, planting, playing instruments and making things.
Fun fact: I am an identical twin.
Thobekile Shange [Dental Assistant]
I am Thobekile Shange, 30 years of age. I grew up in Kwazulu Natal in a town called Port Shepstone on the South Coast.
I graduated in dental assisting at Tshwane University of Technology in 2015. I have worked with an orthodontic specialist before joining Dr Kearney’s Advanced Dentistry.
I am a well-mannered, hardworking and energetic individual, who is very flexible in working as an individual or part of a team.
I enjoy reading, watching movies and cooking with my daughter who is 11 years old.
Rachel Magakwe [Janitor]I am Rachel Magakwe. I am from Groblersdal and I have three children.
I first worked at Angelique's Boutique in Groblersdal from 1991 to 2003.
I then worked for Dr. Kearney as his practice janitor at Groblersdal and then moved with him to Centurion when he started Smile Care.
I have since been the person responsible for the wellness and hygiene of this great practice and I see to that everything stays clean and tidy.
I am very happy here because at Smile Care we are not just seen as staff, but as family.
